The Global TOM System is the first Social Value standard that measures impact in each country on its own terms and adds the results up to one comparable global figure. Country teams report against measures designed for their market, in their own currency, and your board sees a total it can compare, question, and act on.
| How the Global TOM System reports Social Value | Example |
Social Value of employing 100 people (FTE) in four different countries.
Total: $INT 26.40m
| Country | Local currency | $INT |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | £4.20m | 6.14m |
| Netherlands | €5.82m | 7.52m |
| Spain | €3.18m | 5.34m |
| Australia | A$10.61m | 7.40m |
Calculated with each country's Global TOM System proxy value for employment.
Each of these countries has its own set of measures, built for how Social Value is created in that market.

Adjusted for price differences between countries, so every result adds up to one total.
Whether you're in Madrid or Melbourne, you measure your social impact against measures built for the priorities of your own market.
You can compare Social Value results side by side and see which programmes deliver the most value, across three countries or thirteen.
You get one Social Value figure for the whole group, backed by published data sources and open to the same scrutiny as any other financial result.
Every measure sits under one of five themes. Four core themes apply in every country, and a fifth holds the priorities specific to each country.
Work, Economy, Community and Planet cover the activities that create social value in any market. Because every country uses them, you can add up and compare results across your operations.

Why the Global TOM System?
Multinationals including Amazon and ISS use the Global TOM System to measure and report Social Value across their international operations.
Every financial proxy, meaning the monetary value given to an outcome, draws on sources such as the World Bank, the OECD and the IMF. Country-specific measures use national statistics offices and government data, and every proxy is checked and peer reviewed.
Our Social Value specialists check the evidence behind your reported data, so the figures that reach your board have been reviewed before anyone relies on them.
The framework applies additionality, which counts only value that wouldn't have happened anyway, and attribution, which counts only the share your organisation is responsible for. It also stops the same outcome being counted twice.
Results feed into your global ESG and CSR reporting, so Social Value sits alongside your other sustainability disclosures and informs where you invest your impact budget.
