    The Global TOM System: Australia

    The Global TOM System (Themes, Outcomes and Measures) is the world’s leading Social Value measurement standard. In 2023, Social Value Portal established the Australian Social Value Taskforce—a cross-sector group of 40+ Australian organisations—to develop a version of the TOM System tailored to Australia’s unique social, economic and cultural context.

    The result is the Global TOM System for Australia, a robust, transparent and comparable framework for measuring Social Value.

    There are over 100 Measures across the four Global TOM System Themes, plus an additional Theme focused on outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Activities and outcomes in the framework capture everything from job creation, carbon reductions and employee training. In fact, upskilling just 10 employees through vocational training unlocks nearly $90,000 in Social Value.

    Social Traders

    Social Value Portal is pleased to be partnering with Social Traders, Australia’s leading industry body for social enterprise and social performance established since 2008.     Australian Social Value Taskforce

    In 2023, Social Value Portal established the Australian Social Value Taskforce, a cross-sector group of more than 40 Australian organisations committed to shaping a credible, locally relevant approach to Social Value. The Taskforce is co-chaired by Ventia and together the group plays a central role in the development and ongoing evolution of the Global TOM System Australia, ensuring it reflects:

    • Australia’s social, economic and cultural context
    • National priorities across employment, communities and sustainability
    • The lived realities of organisations delivering Social Value on the ground
