Clancy Group has delivered £167m of validated Social Value to date. This is their journey, and the real outcomes behind the number: hundreds of Christmas presents for children who'd never had one, a charity single recorded by pupils with special educational needs, and much more.
Most organisations are full of people already doing things that count as Social Value – volunteering, hiring locally, supporting community initiatives – without identifying it as such, and without anyone joining it up into a co-ordinated approach that can be reported.
Clancy Group recognised that problem, and by investing in education across the business and building a reliable reporting infrastructure, created the conditions for their Social Value programme to scale.
The outcome: £167m of cumulative validated Social Value delivered to date. This case study explores Clancy Group’s journey and spotlights some of the initiatives making an impact in communities.
When Hannah Leggatt joined in 2023, Clancy Group's Social Value activity was already underway, but inconsistently understood and reported across the business, with no shared definition of what counted or how to capture it.
The first priority therefore wasn't reporting, but education. Clancy Group ran awareness sessions from board level down through the executive team, middle management and operations, establishing a common understanding of what Social Value meant within the context of Clancy Group's work and values.
From that foundation, three things followed:
Social Value Portal’s Consultancy team was brought in to support the first Champions session, helping to demystify Social Value and build capability.
Social Value is now embedded in Clancy Group's broader wellbeing umbrella through the Clancy Cares initiative, represented at the centre of the Clancy Cares Flower: a framework where each petal represents a different area of the business.

In 2024, Clancy Group delivered £45.3m against a £40m target, as measured by the TOM System. A year later, that figure stood at £70.7m – 56% growth in a single year, and £167m to date.
But the programme is driven by growing ambition, and the overarching target is £300m by 2030.

These numbers reflect a programme that has broadened as it has grown. Local employment remains a cornerstone, with 70-90% of Clancy Group's workforce on contracts being local hires, feeding directly back into local economies.
Its apprenticeship programme, meanwhile, delivered 3,324 development weeks in FY25/26, split between new entrants to the industry and the upskilling of existing employees, a deliberate response to a sector-wide skills gap.
Schools engagement has also been key, including career talks, careers fairs, and hands-on support, alongside community initiatives, from garden renovations to environmental volunteering.
Much of this was activity the business had always done – but now everyone knew it counted and how to record it, with the Champions network ensuring nothing fell through the gaps.
Behind Clancy Group’s £167m of Social Value are hundreds of individual decisions and actions, from a team packing shoeboxes to a site crew volunteering at a local school.
Here are three examples from 2025 illustrating how Clancy Group's Social Value programme plays out on the ground.

Willoughby Academy is a school for pupils with special educational needs, and the Star Project gives pupils a way to express themselves through music and creativity.
Clancy Group supported the creation of a charity single written and performed entirely by Willoughby Academy pupils. The production process involved recording children's vocals and musical contributions, and over 180 hours of production work to capture, merge and master the track.
100% of proceeds went directly to Willoughby Academy to support its ongoing work.

The Samaritans Christmas Shoebox Appeal delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to children living with the effects of war, poverty and natural disaster. For many of them, it’s the first Christmas present they have ever received.
In November 2025, teams from Clancy Group’s offices and sites came together to support the campaign, delivering 544 volunteer hours, and donating, packing and delivering 272 shoeboxes that went to children in Eastern Europe and Moldova.

Broughton Junior School in Aylesbury had outdoor space, but it lacked features supporting physical activity and play.
Working in partnership with EKFB, Clancy Group created a new outdoor running track incorporating mounds and tunnels, designed to encourage movement, balance and physical development across different age groups and abilities.
Clancy Group handled ground preparation, landscape shaping, and full reinstatement of the area, with staff donating 432 volunteer hours, and grass seeds from Clancy Group’s supply chain completing the transformation.

The Clancy Group's programme is built on the Social Value TOM System™, which gives the business a consistent framework for deciding what to measure, how to value it, and how to report it credibly. The TOM System is the common language running through the entire Social Value programme.
And crucially, Social Value Portal independently validates all of Clancy Group’s reporting. That's what gives the £167m credibility with clients, the workforce, and other stakeholders.
The reason we wanted to work with Social Value Portal was the validation and verification. I can with confidence report to turn around and say to my exec team, the board, and our CEO, that we’ve achieved this, and that can then be shared.
Hannah Leggatt, Director of Environment & Sustainability, The Clancy Group
Clancy Group has laid robust foundations for its Social Value programme, with an upskilled workforce, a monthly reporting cadence, and validation of data. The next stage will be more granular reporting and closer collaboration with the supply chain as the business works toward its 2030 target.
Social Value is at the heart of how Clancy operates. By empowering our people to create positive environmental, social and economic impact in the communities we serve, we've shown that infrastructure delivery can leave a lasting legacy far beyond the asset itself.
